Mt. White makes for a great backpacking trip as there are several good campsites all along the trail and an excellent, maintained trail all the way until the last mile or so to the summit.
I would classify this hike as easy class 2 if you follow our ascent up to the mining road and then take the mining road to the summit. We decided to descend down the north slope just east of the summit block, which was loose, but not dangerous rock. It was, however, more difficult than the original ascent route.
Note that the summit is different than what most maps show, which will insist the true summit is further east than it actually is. Just merely looking at this false summit it’s obvious that it is not taller than the one further to the west, and closer to the mining road.
Also note that the land leading to the peak is technically private mining property as of 2022 and you are not allowed up there, but as we went in May there were no mining employees up there to shoo us off.
